about

“Cigarettes et rosé” is an energetically percussive anthem of silly French happenings alluding to history and the importance of trusting people. It follow's the poetic ghosting of "The Mariner’s Remedy” (2019).

While living in France, Elise observed that, “at times people wouldn’t trust others to come into their homes. Thus, they would avoid having at-home gatherings. This absolutely fascinated me, especially given that Canadians are so welcoming and accepting.” Although this didn’t happen all over France, it came as a surprise. It was for this reason that the menagerie of bilingual lyrics repeat “Invite your friends/Invite tes amis.” Depending on where the band performs, they will include the local languages to create a feeling of inclusivity.

“Cigarettes et rosé” also gestes back to the mighty force of French rulers such as Napoleon and the many Louis’. This is made apparent through the litany of military-esque rolls and proudly laced string arpeggiations of the violin, cello and contra bass.

lyrics

English Lyrics
I saw you marching to the Bastille
I saw you marching to the Bastille
Oh, what's he gonna do to me?
Do you know what you'll do to me?

So, invite your friends, invite your friends, invite you friends
Invite your friends, invite your friends, invite your friends
Invite tes amis, invite tes amis, invite tes amis
(Invite your friends, invite your friends, invite your friends)
Invite tes amis, invite tes amis, invite tes amis
(Invite your friends, invite your friends, invite your friends)
Invite tes amis, invite tes amis, invite tes amis
(Invite your friends, invite your friends, invite your friends)
Invite tes amis, invite tes amis, invite tes amis
(Invite your friends, invite your friends, invite your friends)

And, slap on that Speedo, you French babe

Azure seasides, cigarettes et rosé
Inspire your peers
Confetti crimes, will the deserts ever rhyme?

Je ne parle pas bien le français
Malgré l'amour c’est un autre langue gai

So, invite your friends, invite your friends, invite you friends
Invite your friends, invite your friends, invite your friends
Invite tes amis, invite tes amis, invite tes amis
(Invite your friends, invite your friends, invite your friends)
Invite tes amis, invite tes amis, invite tes amis
(Invite your friends, invite your friends, invite your friends)
Invite tes amis, invite tes amis, invite tes amis
(Invite your friends, invite your friends, invite your friends)
Invite tes amis, invite tes amis, invite tes amis
(Invite your friends, invite your friends, invite your friends)

I saw you marching to the Bastille
I saw you marching to the Bastille
I saw you marching to the Bastille
I saw you marching to the Bastille

I saw you marching to the Bastille
I saw you marching to the Bastille
I saw you marching to the Bastille

I saw you marching to the Bastille
I saw you marching to the Bastille
Oh, what's he gonna do to me?
Do you know what you did to me?

Paroles français

Invite tes amis, invite tes amis, invite tes amis
Invite tes amis, invite tes amis, invite tes amis
